Background/Introduction

A Remote Control can be defined as a system of controlling an electronic device from a distance. This system can be further divided into two categories namely:
  1. Wired Remote Control System.
  2. Wireless Remote Control System.
Two such widely used remote control types are the Radio Frequency (RF) and the Infra Red (IR) transmissions.
  1. In our project RF remote control system was chosen because of its overriding features when compared to the IR system.
  2. The RF remote control system possesses the ability to communicate even around obstacles and over a larger distance when compared to IR.
  3. The main purpose of our project is to give both security and also control of various devices. Main outcomes of this project are:
  4. Firstly, a person who wants to enter his home with use of this remote, can easily open the door.
  5. Secondly, after entering in the dark room he can turn on the light or fan easily.
  6. Thirdly, by using this remote he can also control the light, fan of any of the rooms in his house.
  7. Security of our system is maintained by providing security code in the microcontroller for each command.

Block diagram of our system
We use RF transmitter and receiver pair of frequency 27-36 MHz.

Microcontroller programming
Programming can be divided into main three steps.
Step-1
Writing the Basic language program.
Step-2
Compile.
Step-3
Loading the compiled program into micro-controller program memory.
Application of our project
There are several applications of our project.
  1. To control light, fan using a remote controller.
  2. To open or close the door more easily with this system.
  3. To perform on-off operation of various devices is done from remote places.
  4. To door open or close operation is done by authentic users.

Drawbacks
We have several drawbacks in our designed system.
  1. We can not control the speed of the fan. We can only on or off the fan.
  2. We can just move the door in the clockwise and anticlockwise direction. But we can not provide any lock security system in the door.
  3. Another drawback is the number of the operating devices. We control only limited devices.
